BACKGROUND.
After the death of Charlemagne, his successors were weak and incapable of supporting their large empire. When Charles "The Fat" died the Empire dissapeared until the crowned of Otto I of Saxony.
in this world, between the Rhin and the Elba rivers, that is to say, between Latin and Slav world, the process of disintegrationing of Chalermagnes Empire created four Duchies: Saxony, Franconia, Swabia and Bavary.
The members of these German families tried to get for themselves the Emperors throne fighting against the Pope, Italian lords, Franks, Magyars, Slavs and themselves to get it.
You have to be one of these families and try to develop and empowerment your lands to be the greatest Emperor, "The Emperor of the last times" who wait, on mountain of Kyffhuser, the time when he will come to lead the German people.

INSTALLATION

This scenario will NOT work with Civ2 versions below 2.7.81, the one
provided by the Fantastic Worlds scenario disk. If you have it, make
a new folder under the Scenarios folder. Call it "Hre" and put all
the files in it. Now open Civ2 in the regular way, select 'play a
scenario', open the Hre folder and double-click on Hre.scn.

PLAYERS

**Franconians --> Your lands have frontiers with all Duchies so you can be in a hard situation if start a war against them. You can only expand your domains to Lotharingia where Franks live so be carefull.
**Swabians --> You are very near of Burgundy and North Italy so you can expand to these lands, but be carefull with the powerfull Bavarians in the East.
**Bavarians --> You have lots of lands to expands, especcially, in Austria, North Italy and Hungary. But this conquest could be stopped by Magyars. Other problem: a member of your family will never get the Imperial Throne (you wont have a Emperor unit).
**Saxons --> You are the best situated to get the Emperors throne. At the start of the scenario your Duchy is the biggest, you have no powerfull neighbours and you have a Emperor unit who helps you to expand your lands along the Slavs terrains.

Other civs as Burgundians, Italians and Romans arent to play, they are your eternal enemies and you have to defeat them to asecure your throne and your power.

NOTES

* I have tried to create a scenario abot all the Middle Ages so it is not a objetives scenario. You have to expand your cities and develop the techtree to get the final victory, the scenario ends when you have conquest all the cities or when came the year 1250.
* The Engineers could change the rivers to navigable channels with the option " o ".
*Most of the artwork appearing in this scenario was created by me (signatures JMF). But I have take "borrowed" some units from Erwan (he has wonderful galleries of units), Andrew Miller, Jess Balsinde, Stephan Otto and Stefan de Jonge.
Too, many thanks for the creators of some scenarios of Ive taken some ideas: "Charlemagne" by Mr. Temba, "Hundred Years War" by John Ellis, "Middle Ages" by Stefan de Jonge and "Teutonic Knights" by Stephan Otto.
And finally, Many thanks to Stefan Hrtel for his help with the German flags and to Jess Balsinde for his helps and advices.
